Peugeot 207 Guide

The 207 has a tough act to follow, its predecessor; the 206 has been an all-time best seller for Peugeot and one of the most successful superminis of recent years.

The first thing you notice about the 207 is that it is a bigger all-round car than the 206. It combines a strong, solid design with a healthy dash of practicality. This reinforces its image as a small family car.

The 207 is available in 2 basic formats; Classic and Sport.

The Classic is more laid back and comes in three trims; Urban, S and SE.

The Sport is more aggressive with much more chrome and an exposed exhaust. It comes in two trim options; Sport and GT.

3 and 5 door versions are available throughout the range with the exception of the SE which is only available with 5 doors.

Styling

From the outside the 207 has attractive lines, a broad radiator grille and swept back headlamps and comes in a choice of 13 colours.

Once inside, the 207 has a light, airy and well presented cabin with a mixture of chrome and high quality plastic. The instrument console is well laid out and all of the switches are easily to hand.

The steering wheel and the seat are both fully adjustable. The seats are well padded and are more than comfortable enough for longer journeys. Rear seat space is ample for a family with or 3 children.

The boot space is impressive for a car in this class and the provision of a good sized glove box, cup holders and door bins all combine to make the 207 a very practical option for the small family.

The seats split 60/40 and when folded down increase storage space significantly.

The standard in-car entertainment is provided with a single-slot CD/ Radio unit. This integrates well into the dashboard, and a sat-nav system is available as an extra option.

Performance and Handling

The new power steering system introduced with the 207 is very impressive. It makes the car very nimble around town and simple to park in even the tightest of spaces but also manages to provide plenty of feedback to the driver.

Peugeot offers 3 petrol and 3 diesel engines to take advantage of this agility. The 1.4 Litre 16 valve (95 bhp) engine is arguably the most popular of the petrol options and offers plenty of economical, usable power. But if you really want more power you should consider the 1.6 Litre, 110 bhp plant.

Of the diesel plants the 110 bhp 1.6 HDi turbo diesel is the most fun to drive.

The 207 has a much better driving position than its predecessor the 206.

Economy

The diesel plant is the most economical option offering 68.9 mpg for extra urban driving. But with service intervals of 20,000 miles or 2 years, servicing for any of the engine options won't break the bank.

All engines score high on the green front with average emissions of 141g/km CO2.

Safety & Security

The 207 boasts an impressive 5 star Euro NCAP Rating and in addition to this comes with dual front, side and curtain airbags as standard. When combined with solid side and front impact protection, this makes the 207 the ideal choice for the safety conscious driver.

ABS anti-lock braking with electronic brake force distribution also comes as standard.

For the family driver there are also 2 Isofix child seat fixing points.

Security is also a strong feature of the 207. It comes as standard with:

  • Remote central locking
  • Deadlocks
  • Automatic locking once the car reaches 6mph
  • An immobilizer
  • A Thatcham Category 1 alarm is fitted as standard on the GT and GTi models
